I thought I loved reading… until my phone decided it loved me more
Reading was my little escape until mindless scrolling and Netflix arrived. I was never a voracious reader, but I was always reading a book or planning to read one. Actually, I didn’t trade books for screentime, I just realised that I have upgraded to HOARDING Books.
Apparently, the Japanese (as always – thoughtful, precise, and somehow effortlessly perfect) even have a name for this: Tsundoku. Fancy, right?

Did I mention I have a Kindle as well? There’s a 5GB of digital Tsundoku there, too. Someday I’ll read it all.
Modern technology hijacks our brain’s dopamine system, rewarding tiny, instant pleasures from scrolling, notifications, and binge watching, and I’ve fallen victim to it.
Nevertheless, I still love going to bookstores, browsing for new books and discovering new authors (which can be easily done on goodreads.com as well), and inhaling the irresistible smell of freshly printed pages. There’s a special kind of peace you find at a bookstore that no screen can ever replicate. It’s the kind of place where time slows down.
And yes, I’ll probably grab another book
Sure, my bookshelves are overflowing, my Kindle is loaded with a mountain of unread titles, and yet I keep buying more.. But who cares? I’m not procrastinating. I’m practicing a culturally significant art form called Tsundoku.

wonderfully put! I can completely relate to this. Graphically too very well represented…. Loved this 🙂
